Restaurant Transformations

There are a couple of shows on the air (well cable anyway) about going into failing restaurants and fixing both the owners and the restaurants themselves. For a while now we've been watching Restaurant Impossible with Robert Irvine spending a couple of days fixing various places around the country. This, apparently, was a copy of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey.

A few months back we were walking down Greenwood Avenue to get some awesome Mexican from El Chupacabra and noticed a hubbub around Yanni's, a Greek joint. We realized it was Kitchen Nightmares. It was interesting looking through the front windows while the crew was tearing the place apart that Friday night getting it ready to for a Saturday opening. That particular episode aired (actually transmitted on the air!) last night.Like almost all of these shows it seems to boil down to only a few different things:

  • Self-awareness
  • Cleanliness
  • Food quality
  • Menu size
  • Family relationships
  • Marketing

Other than the marketing, Yanni's had it all.Somehow these are common flaws...

I think that we'll have to try them out one of these days to see how the "new" place is working out!
