Windows Update

Sigh... today I was reminded why I hate Windows. (Even though the mothership is just down across Lake Washington)I have one machine that runs Windows natively. It's one of the ICOM cast-offs from a long, long, long time ago. It's running Windows 7.This morning, well before sunrise, I got on my trainer and started off on a bike ride around Solon. No problem. This aforementioned laptop was talking to the trainer, my heart rate monitor, the trainer's computer all while painting Google maps in front of me.Life is good. For around 20 minutes. Then Windows decides to reboot the machine for a fucking update. What the hell is going on?!Scenario:

  • Computer recently gets out of sleep mode
  • Computer is doing something
    • Note this implies that someone is at the computer
  • Computer suddenly decides that now is a good time to fucking reboot?!

I can see an argument of doing an update before going to sleep or something. But right after it wakes up? WTF?I'm sure it had a little bubble that popped up on the other screen that I wasn't looking at. That's no excuse.Epic fail.In the middle of my workout it decided to update... What if I was giving a presentation? What if I was watching a movie on a HTPC and it suddenly rebooted in the middle of a movie? What if I was doing anything other than watching for a bubble waiting for the moment that Windows decides that it knows better. Some programmer in Redmond was asleep at the wheel with this one.

Yes, I've now turned off auto updating. Now it's a race to see what'll get me first... annoyance or malware.Stupid Windows.
