Forty

The proverbial hill... am I over it?No.To say "over the hill" implies that from here out you've stopped trying. That you've stopped growing. That you are beginning your decent back to whence you came.Do I feel older today?Older than when I was 20? Sure. I wake up in the morning and my ankles don't really want to work as well as they used to.Do I feel older than a year ago? Not really. There's the people who think "you're only as old as you feel." The problem with that is "how old does 40 feel?"There's the group that say "you're only old as you act." Again, the same problem. I know down pretty buttoned up 20-year-olds and I know some rockin' 60-year-olds. Who's acting how old? (Screw it. Just act like yourself.)

The topic of immortality came up at work last week. No recollection how it came up. The question was posed: "Would you want to be immortal?"No. If I were immortal then what would be the motivation to do anything. Anything you didn't do today you could always do tomorrow. Or the day after that. There is no shortage of tomorrows.Lacking immortality, each of us is imbued with a certain amount of time. Each day counts. Tomorrow might never come.As it is said in the realm of the Subgenius:

"The world ends tomorrow! You might die!"

Live like that. Sometimes even the Subgenius gets it right.Slack on my friends!Or maybe just slack tomorrow.--Edit: Correct title from fourty to forty. Blarg.
